Session Topic: Setting and Resetting the Foundation in the Home
Parenting a child in this contemporary culture can be challenging. Tactics and strategies that once worked for previous generations may not be as effective with the cultural differences that exist today. Dr. Oyedokun will highlight the need of SETTING or RESETTING the foundation in the home. The physical foundation of a house is buried in the ground underneath your home. Its primary purpose is to hold your house up. Without it, your house would quickly sink into the ground unevenly, resulting in cracks and damage to your home. A properly built foundation will keep the home even and supported, even during a flood or earthquake. Dr. Oyedokun will provide strategies for parents to strengthen relationships with children in the home dealing with conflict resolution, the giving and receiving of respect and identifying trauma. Dr. Oyedokun is a father of three children with two currently in high school and one in intermediate school. He has been a teacher, a pastor for 15 years and has mentored and counseled youth for over 25 years. Dr. Oyedokun brings personal experience from the perspective of being raised in a single parent household, blended family, and navigating through the highs and lows of lived experiences.
